Beloved Memory: A Writer's Journey Through Jewish Latin America

In this presentation Chilean poet and activist Marjorie Agosin will explore what it means to be a Jewish Latin American writer living in the USA and writing in Spanish. Honored for her work on human rights by the United Nations, Agosin will also address how historical and personal memory are deeply intertwined in her works as a poet.



Marjorie Agosin is a Professor of Spanish at Wellesley College and author of many volumes of poetry, essays, and two memoirs, including:



  • Cartographies: Meditations on Travel (2004)

  • Memory, Oblivion and Jewish Culture in Latin America (2005)

  • Tapestries of Hope, Threads of Love : the Arpillera Movement in Chile, 1974-1994 (2008)



She is the winner of the Letras de Oro Prize and the Latino Literature Prize.
